This Nonviolent Communication workshop will dramatically improve your relationships by helping you focus attention on developing an empathic understanding of others without compromising your own values, as well as learning to express your real feelings and needs openly and honestly without blame or criticism. Our guest presenter will be Lucy Perry, graduate of Brown University in Providence, RI and member of the Bay Area Nonviolent Communication organization. Lucy is a songwriter, singer, and native of Jackson, MS, and currently lives in Berkley, California. Lucy will describe the four components of communication that delineate nonviolent communication:1)Observations free of evaluations; 2) Feelings straight from the heart; 3) Needs, values and longings; and 4) Requests expressed clearly in positive action language. Lucy will enlighten participants as to the use of these tools to help create dialogue that fosters compassion, mutual understanding, and creative solutions to conflicts. Even in situations of longstanding conflict or hostility, the nonviolent communication process can open new doors to compassionate connection and action.

The Edge of Adventure isa multi-week course in which participants experiment with applying what they believe to specific circumstances and relationships in their own communities and churches. They will try experiments in Christian caring in their own personal, vocational and community relationships and report questions and insights that arise from these experiences. This allows them to take a private faith test in a safe environment as they look at their personal commitment to God and other people. The group meetings are ideally two hours in length. Some of the issues addressed by the lessons are:* How do I learn to live what I believe?* How will living my beliefs affect my relationships at home, at work, and at church?* How do I develop my own intimate prayers?* How do I continue to ask and receive forgiveness regularly from God?* How do I ask forgiveness from and forgive those whom I'm in conflict?* How do I get the motivation and courage to move beyond my comfort zone to care about hurting people there? COST: $30.00 per participant; includes book and response workbook. Contact James Briggs for more information. (jbriggs66@comcast.net) Organizational meeting will be on June 8, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the library.
We are planning the Jackson day for the Natchez Children's Home-Kids on Saturday, April 26th. The kids will arrive at the Science museum around 10am to go through the Science Museum. Afterward, we will have a pic-nic at the playground (pavilion) with lunch. Lunch will consist of fried chicken, etc. After lunch and a little bit of play, we will all head over to the Ag museum (2ish?).If anyone is interested in helping for the day, joining us, meeting the kids, providing cookies, water bottles, napkins, wipes, large coolers, please, contact Kathy Davini telephone: 601-853-3436 or kdavini@gmail.com. It would be great to have Church families joining us for the Saturday outing. They are expecting to send about 15 kids for the day. I need to get an accurate head count for tickets. We should get a discounted group rate for everyone. Thanks so much, Kathy Davini 601-853-3436
