What does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.
— Micah 6:8

St. Philip’s is a church family committed to serving others in God’s Kingdom. Outreach is the means by which we reach out to the community, outside our church doors, to our neighbors near and far, known and unknown. St. Philip’s members of all ages are encouraged to live out God’s call to “love our neighbor.”

Arise2Read

Arise2Read is up and running at McLeod School, and is a ministry in partnership with Ascension Lutheran.  We meet with 10 students twice a week to help second grade students improve their reading skills by strengthening their sight word vocabulary. Sessions are 30 minutes long. The Arise2Read program provides us with all the materials and program plans. The first week was hailed as fun and successful!

Habitat For Humanity

Habitat for Humanity Episcopal Build is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home in the Jackson, Mississippi area. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities.

Bill Burke works with other Episcopal churches to coordinate house building in the Fall.

To find out more information, contact Bill Burke at billy_burke@att.net  or Lee Smithson at leesmithson7@gmail.com.

Stewpot Community Services provides thousands of men, women and children with hot meals, groceries, clothing, shelter, childcare, mentoring and other programs to nurture them and help them get back on their feet. We believe the sacred is encountered in the common events in like, like sharing a meal. We are all fed, spiritually and physically, by our fellowship with each other.

Jean Schott and Sherry McWhorter coordinate our outreach at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility.  The Storybook Project promotes literacy and maintaining family connections.  We help inmates select age appropriate books for their children and record them reading the book.  The book and the disc are then mailed to the children, so they can look at the book and listen to their mothers’ voices reading to them. All volunteers at the prison must be certified and pass the criminal records check.  Currently the Storybook Project is being managed by Grace Episcopal Church in Canton, but we need lots of volunteers to serve the many parents at the prison.

If you are interested in this mission or want more information, please contact Jean Schott at Jaaschot@comcast.net or Sherry McWhorter at smcwhorter1@gmail.com.
